Question of the month:
Why doesn't BOClean detect the "W32.troj.foobar"?
We at PSC think it's far more important to get any new trojan detected
and into an update file, long before it gets widely distributed into the
wild and onto your system. So, unlike the folks featured in this
article:
http://www.newsfactor.com/perl/story/15662.html
who seem to be spending a good amount of time and energy renaming worms, viruses and trojans (not to mention misclassifying them, creating a lot of confusion over what a virus, worm and trojan actually is...), we're just getting the updates out, and you protected fast. We can all understand not wanting to give an author of malware any sort of recognition, however, getting an update out does much more to neutralize any threat than bruised egos over a name change.
It's beginning to look like we'll all be seeing a lot more trojans, and a lot more updates. We will continue to make every effort to get trojans listed as they are released, so you're protected before they become a mass-distributed problem.
As reported by the Register at:

The "DSO Exploit" (Data Source Object) was first reported by GreyMagic Software of Israel on February 27, 2002 and a "workaround" for Microsoft's defective code was provided by Axel Pettinger and Garland Hopkins on March 3, 2002. Their fix requires the user to manually edit the registry. Many computer users are extremely nervous (and justifiably so) about doing this, owing to years of warnings and advisories not to. This FREE utility will safely do it for those who do not feel confident running and editing "Regedit."
DSOstop is freeware, and it's available now:
